The Lucara Diamond Corp. has announced that construction of its AK6 diamond mine in Botswana is on schedule and is over 60% complete. However, due to industrial action in the South African steel industry, deliveries of steel to the project have been delayed. The action has spread to other industries, impacting electrical equipment supply and transportation as well.
Meanwhile, work is continuing at the site. Steel that has been delivered is being erected and the project schedule has been adjusted to minimize the impact of the delivery delays. The full impact of the delays on the work schedule will not be known until the industrial action ends.
"We are obviously concerned with the events in South Africa and hope for a speedy resolution to the industrial action. We will be working closely with our EPCM partners to minimize the impact on the project schedule," President and CEO of Lucara William Lamb said in a statement.
