Some 18 owners of commercial sites in Surat's diamond market in India have decided to beef up their security, following the deadly bombings in Mumbai that killed a number of diamond industry members this month. Taking up the initiative led by the Surat Diamond Association, the commercial complex owners are installing closed-circuit television cameras around the mini bazaar Varachha.
They expect to have the cameras in place in the next two weeks.
The owners of the shops that face the main market hope that the cameras will help them keep an eye on the diamond market. They have decided to install the cameras at their own expense, following a discussion with Surat Diamond Association President Dinesh Navadia.
