Rough diamonds sold by the DTC during a July sight are valued at about $850 million, according to reports. This marks a 5-10% increase in rough prices commanded by the sightholders.
International reports show that the recent rise in rough diamond prices is a lateral increase that affects almost all the segments of the industry.
DTC Spokeswoman Louise Prior told Rapaport News that the July sight is generally large and the sightholders normally buy aggressively ahead of the upcoming summer vacation.
The increased demand and higher prices for rough diamonds are predicted to benefit De Beers, which is expected to publish its financial report for the first half of 2011 soon.
