IIJW 2011 kicks off in complete glamour and style

August, 31 2011 marked the opening of the second edition of the India International Jewellery (IIJW) Week 2011, the first jewellery week of its kind in Asia, organised by the Gem and Jewellery Promotion Council (GJEPC). The inauguration saw a gathering of eminent personalities - Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Govt. Of India, IIJW Brand Ambassador, Sonam Kapoor at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, and leading jewellery manufacturing companies.
Rajiv Jain the Chairman of GJEPC says “This year, we will be graced by the presence of Fabrice Martelli of Boucheron & Yasmina Khoudja of Harry Winston who will be a part of our esteemed guest list. IIJW is a milestone event set to establish Brand India as the as THE "Jewellery Design Destination" for Asia and the rest of the world.”
IIJW was conceived as a platform of recognition for India’s legacy of ornate jewellery of yesteryears, and more so its evolution in design that blends the classic sensibilities of the past with the more modern and contemporary approach. And in this vein, this year it will showcase 35 designers /design houses, which will also introduce global design trends for the season. IIJW 2011 also celebrates India’s world leadership as the largest exporter and fastest manufacturer. For the Indian gem and jewellery industry this is “history in the making”, as stated by As Mr. Jain.
Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of State for Tourism said “Jewellery has been one of the many fascinating attractions for foreigners visiting India, besides the myriad tourist spots that our country offers. I am happy to announce the celebration of India as the global destination for jewellery design at the India International Jewellery Week 2011 which is poised to take the country to greater heights of recognition as a country which is the largest manufacturer and supplier of diamonds in the world, and at the same time one that forecasts trends in Jewellery designs for the International markets.”
Of the five days of IIJW, the first four days will showcase collections from designers and design houses, and the 5th day will host a grand finale of the best from all participants at IIJW.
IIJW 2011 is hosting a gathering of international celebrities, established design houses and designers, new design talent. The ramp shows will be choreographed by leading Indian choreographers Lubna Adamns, Achla Sachdev and Elric Dsouza.
