Japanese steel export in June up by 5pct MoM - JISF

The Japan Iron & Steel Federation has gathered and released statistics on steel export of June 2011. According to the statistics, steel export in June 2011 was 3,506,000 tonnes. Export amount was JPY 342.9 billion. Compared with the same month last year, quantity decreased by 9.3% for 4 months in a row, and amount in dollar increased by 5.4% for 18 months in a row while that in yen decrease by 6.6% for 2 months in a row. Compared with the previous month, quantity increased by 5.8% for the first time in 3 months while amount did by 6.6% in dollar and 6.0% in yen both for the first time in 3 months.
Export of ordinary steel was 2,362,000 tonnes, down by 8.2% from the same month last year for 4 months in a row, and up by 6.7% from the previous month for the first time in 3 months. By item with % compared with the same month last year, hot rolled coils (738,000 tonnes, down 14.7%) decreased for 3 months in a row, galvanized sheets coils (419,000 tonnes, down 17.1%) did for 4 months in a row, cold rolled coils (328,000 tonnes, down 3.0%) did for 4 months in a row, welded forged pipes tubes (63,000 tonnes, down 9.6%) did for 8 months in a row, wire rods (51,000 tonnes, down 1.6%) did for the first time in 2 months and bars (28,000 tonnes, down 19.1%) did for 5 months in a row. While, plates (345,000 tonnes, up 5.2%) increased for 3 months in a row, electrical steel sheets coils (89,000 tonnes, up 12.7%) did for the first time in 2 months, seamless pipes tubes (59,000 tonnes, up 16.9%) did for the first time in 3 months, shapes and sections (69,000 tonnes, up 0.2%) did for 3 months in a row.
By item with % compared with the previous month, hot rolled coils (17.3%), cold rolled coils (10.8%), wire rods (9.5%), seamless pipes tubes (6.3%), plates (3.6%), bars (3.3%), electrical sheets coils (3.0%), shapes sections (0.6%), and so forth increased respectively. While, welded forged pipes tubes (39.3%), galvanized sheets coils (4.5%) and so forth decreased respectively.
By destination on all steel basis with % compared with the same month last year, export quantity for the biggest Korea (777,000 tonnes, down 20.4%) decreased for 7 months in a row, that for China (583,000 tonnes, down 16.2%) did for 3 months in a row, that for Thailand (366,000 tonnes, down 17.8%) did for 2 months in a row, that for Taiwan (282,000 tonnes, down 30.4%) for the first time in 2 months respectively while that for USA (182,000 tonnes, up 49.6%) increased for the first time in 2 months.
