Surat Officials Nab 2 Men in Possession of $1M Worth of Alleged Conflict Diamonds

Two men suspected of smuggling a parcel of rough conflict diamonds were arrested in Surat at the beginning of this week, IBN Live reports.
Investigators from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) nabbed one Congolese citizen, who was found in possession of 10,500 carats of rough diamonds worth nearly $1 million, and one Indian citizen to whom the Congolese man was supposed to deliver the diamonds.
According to an official from the DRI, the Indian man had previously been arrested in the Congo on smuggling charges.
Officials seized the parcel of diamonds and both men are being charged under the Customs Act.
