The diamond producing giant De Beers and South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers have signed a deal, bringing to a close a strike that lasted 14 days, miningmx.com reports.
De Beers has promised to raise wages of artisans and skilled diamond workers by 8%, and workers with "entry-level" skills are expected to receive a raise of 10%. The agreement – valid for two years – is to be backdated to May 2011.
De Beers issued a statement saying it intended to meet its annual diamond production target despite the recent strike.
