Security forces patrolling Zimbabwe's Chiadzwa diamond region are forcing local business owners to close down, Radio Voice of the People reports.
Once local businessman said that the business owners had been informed that they were to be relocated, and told VoP that security guards were actively chasing customers from the local shops.
Some 50 families have already been relocated out of Chiadzwa to facilitate diamond mining, but the remaining residents are refusing to vacate until and unless they receive the UN-mandated relocation compensation of $50,000 per family – which the diamond miners are allegedly refusing to pay.
