Brooklyn Jewelry Store Owners Charged with Tax Violations

Three owners and managers of Jewelry stores in the Brooklyn, NY area were charged this week for violations regarding the collection of sales tax, the Brooklyn DA’s office said.
The stores, Golden Art Fine Jewelers, Crystal Sparkse, and Pavillion Jewelers were all charged for allegedly underreporting taxable sales, the DA's office said. In addition, three other stores pled guilty to other tax-related charges.
The DA's office said in a statement that investigators conducted raids on 27 jewelry stores in the Brooklyn. They said that in 17 cases, investigators were allegedly told that the store would waive the sales tax if they paid cash for the items.
