The Vivid Yellow literally blazes with color, unlike any yellow diamond I've ever seen," Christie's Head of Jewelry Rahul Kadakia said of a 32.77-carat Vivid Yellow pear-shaped diamond that will be auctioned at Christie's New York Magnificent Jewels sale on October 18.
The diamond, which is estimated to sell for $6 million to $8 million, carries a GIA color grae of Fancy Vivid – denoting the highest level of color saturation that can be found in a diamond. Only one colored diamond in 10 million qualifies as Fancy Vivid.
In its gemological report on the diamond, the GIA noted that such stones very rarely appeared at sales. Christie's has said that the diamond could beat the price achieved by the 18.49-carat Golden Drop, which realized $203,000/carat when it was sold in London in 1990.
Christie's has arranged for the yellow diamond to tour the world ahead of the sale. It can be viewed at Christie's London from August 30-31; at Christie's Geneva from September 12-13; at Christie's Hong Kong from September 15-16; and at Christie's New York from October 14-17.
