New Ghanian Diamond Miner Promises to Improve Workers' Living Conditions

The newly-inaugurated Great Consolidated Diamonds Ghana Limited (GCDGL), which recently announced the re-opening of the Akwatia diamond mines in eastern Ghana, is promising to improve living conditions in the communities surrounding the mine.
The Ghana News Agency reports that the company's master plan calls for formal and informal education programs for locals, including high school and college scholarships and vocational training.
In addition, the diamond company says it plans to provide safe water for all the communities affected by the diamond mine and has pledged to run its mining operations according to international environmental standards with an emphasis on sustainable development, proper land use and land reclamation.
