A 553-carat, D color Type II diamond has been recovered from Gem Diamonds' Letseng mine in the Kingdom of Lesotho, the diamond company announced on Wednesday.
The as-yet unnamed diamond, which has been sent to an Antwerp gemological lab for analysis, is the 15th-largest white diamond ever discovered, and the fourth "historic" diamond mined at Letseng in recent years.
Letseng has produced a number of exceptional diamonds, including the 603-carat Lesotho Promise; the 493-carat Letseng Legacy and the 478-carat Light of Letseng.
