US weekly raw steel production slips 0.3 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Tuesday that US raw steelmaking production fell last week (ended September 3), with output dropping 0.3 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended August 27), US raw steel production had fallen 1.4 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,855,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.3 percent decline from the 1,861,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 11.1 percent increase from the 1,669,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 75.9 percent in the week ending September 3, compared to 76.1 percent in the previous week and 69 percent in the same week of last year.
