Value of polished diamond imports into U.S. rise 25% in July

In July 2011, U.S. saw a 25 percent jump (y-o-y basis) in the value of its polished diamond imports to $2.06 billion. The volume of polished diamond imports dropped 8 percent y-o-y basis to 1.191 million. The average price per carat increased 36 percent to $1,727. The value of its polished diamond exports rose 20 percent to $1.42 billion. The country’s net imports stood at $643 million ( $467 million in the same month last year).
The country’s rough diamond imports rose in value by 80 percent y-o-y to $65 million. Rough diamond exports rose by a whooping391 percent to $54 million. The net imports stood at of $11 million ($25 million in July 2010).
The net diamond account (which is the value of polished and rough imports) was $654 million from $492 million in July 2010.
