Israel's May Polished Diamond Exports -55%

Israel’s polished diamond exports declined 55 percent to $463.1 million in May, according to data published by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Rough exports fell 54 percent to $170.7 million during the month. Total exports, polished and rough combined, dropped 55 percent to $633.8 million.
The country’s total diamond imports decreased 63 percent to $332.3 million. CBS did not provide separate import data for rough and polished stones. Israel’s May net diamond account, representing the extent to which total diamond exports exceeded imports, fell 39 percent to $301.5 million.
During the first five months of the year, Israel’s polished exports declined 53 percent to $1.7 billion, while rough exports dropped 65 percent to $606 million. Total exports were down 57 percent to $2.3 billion, and total imports decreased 67 percent to $1.3 billion. As a result, Israel’s net diamond account for January through May fell 22 percent to $952.6 million.
