Japan's polished diamond imports rise 39% in August

In August 2011, Japan noted a 39 percent increase in the value of its polished diamond imports (y-o-y basis) to $63.8 million, but a 2 percent dip I the volume of the said imports to 171,733 carats. The average price of the imports jumped 42 percent to $372 per carat.
Polished diamond imports from India increased 41 percent to $37.4 million, from Belgium by 27 percent to $8.2 million and from Hong Kong by 80 percent to $4.4 million. The import of gold jewellery into the country rose 17 percent to $62.7 million and that of platinum jewellery rose 9 percent to $57.5 million.
