The Lulo diamond project in Angola has yielded its best diamond results yet, Lonrho Mining announced this week.
In a sample of less than 60 cubic meters of ore, Lonrho recovered 19 rough diamonds in sizes up to 6.2 carats, giving an average ore grade of 31.86 carats per 100 cubic meters. This represents a significant improvement over the previous best sample grade of 16.23 carats per 100 cubic meters.
The 3,000 square kilometer Lulo diamond concession is adjacent to diamond licenses operated by De Beers, Alrosa, and Trans Hex and is believed to be one of the most promising diamond projects in Angola.
Lonrho is looking into options to fund a $12.7 million program to explore kimberlite targets at the site.
