Anjin Investments, a Chinese firm mining for diamonds in Zimbabwe’s Chiadzwa fields, is recovering an average of 234,749.92 carats per month, figures from Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development Gift Chimanikire show.
The company is a joint venture between the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) and China’s Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Corporation, a public company that operates under the Chinese Ministry of Construction.
According to the AllAfrica.com news site, the number of diamonds extracted by Anjin – the only Chinese company currently mining a claim in Zimbabwe – is considerably higher than the 164,489 carats/month mined by Zimbabwe’s Mbada Diamonds.
However, because Anjin has yet to receive permission from the Kimberley Process to sell its product, the firm has amassed a stock of 2.5 million to 3 million carats of rough diamonds. Chimanikire told Parliament last week that the KP was due to hold a meeting in the Democratic Republic of Congo that would address the issue.
