Granite tiles allow the strength and durability of tile combined with the lustrous look of rich granite, Whether tiling a countertop, floor or wall, granite tiles will greatly enhance the appearance of any room. Some people prefer to use silicone when affixing granite tiles as opposed to traditional mortar. It's a fairly simple process that requires a few tools and materials easily found in hardware or home and garden stores.

Step1 Prepare the area where you will be installing the granite tile. Make sure it is free from unwanted nails and adhesive. Pry nails with the end of a hammer. Use a product like Goo Gone to get rid of unwanted adhesive. Pour it on the adhesive and scrape away with a putty knife. Thoroughly wash and dry the area to be tiled.

Step 2 Apply a thin beading of silicone around the perimeter of the tile to be installed. Add a few drops in the middle for added security. Lay the tile on the intended surface.

Step 3 There are many selections to choose from when installing granite tile.Repeat the process with the additional tiles. Stop after every half-dozen tiles and check with your level to be certain your surface remains even.

Step 4 Insert a thin wooden shim underneath any area that isn't level. Test again for an even surface using the level.

Step 5 Apply silicone caulking to the seams between the tiles. Wipe away any excess with a damp sponge. Allow the silicone and the silicone grout to dry for about 12 hours before using the area that has been tiled.
